The intended readership for our book crosses disciplinary lines and levels. We see its audience mirroring that of our contributors; scholars and students of children’s literature, education, and youth librarianship in advanced undergraduate and postgraduate courses will find this useful. Early career scholars and those who are more advanced in the field but are interested in catching up on new methodologies and textual forms and/or filling gaps in their historical knowledge also form the intended audience for this volume.

Undergraduate courses in Children’s Literature are required in most teacher education programs in the US, and are offered in prominent universities globally as well. The sections devoted to history and developments will be most useful for courses in youth librarianship such as those offered at the University of Illinois, University of Minnesota, University of South Carolina, and University of Washington. While not every university has postgraduate programs devoted to children’s literature, there are multiple MA, MFA, and doctoral programs in the US and Canada, as well as MPhil and PGCEM courses in the UK, an international summer school in Antwerp, and many courses offered through EU’s Erasmus scheme.
